Chapter 01
SILICON DIOXIDE
The foundation of everything
Silicon dioxide (SiO₂) in its natural crystalline state is quartz. It scores 7 on the Mohs scale. It is transparent, UV-stable, chemically inert and extraordinarily durable. It is also the compound upon which CARVAMP's entire product architecture is built.
In CARVAMP formulations, SiO₂ is reduced to a colloidal dispersion — particles between 10 and 50 nanometres — suspended in a carrier solution that allows penetration into substrate surface pores invisible to the naked eye. On curing, the particles cross-link into a three-dimensional lattice: glass-hard, optically clear, chemically bonded.
This is not a coating you apply to a surface. This is a surface you grow on a surface. The same chemistry protects automotive clear coat, aircraft composite, marine gelcoat, wood, glass, metal, fabric and leather — the substrate changes; the science does not.

THE HARDNESS SCALE
What 10H actually means
The pencil hardness scale ranks surface hardness from 6B (softest) through HB (standard) to 10H (hardest measurable). Automotive paint, unprotected, typically registers between 2B and HB. CARVAMP's ceramic coatings cure at 10H — the maximum the scale records. NANOLUX pushes beyond, at 10H+.
This is not a marketing claim. It is a measurable outcome verified by standardised testing. Swirl marks, light scratches and marring occur below 4H. A CARVAMP-coated surface does not live in that range.

HYDROPHOBICITY
The physics of water repellency
When liquid contacts a surface, the angle it forms at the point of contact — the contact angle — determines hydrophobic performance. Untreated paint: approximately 30°. A standard wax: 70–80°. CARVAMP coatings: consistently above 110°, with AEROPRO exceeding 115°.
At contact angles above 90°, water does not spread — it beads and rolls. At above 110°, the rolling force is sufficient for self-cleaning: contaminants are carried off the surface with the departing water. The panel cleans itself in rain. The hull sheds salt spray. The airframe sheds moisture at speed.
This is not cosmetic performance. It is a measurable reduction in cleaning frequency, cleaning-induced marring and a meaningful extension of coating longevity across every division.

UV RESISTANCE
The invisible threat
Ultraviolet radiation causes photochemical degradation of organic polymers — the primary component in automotive clear coats, marine gelcoat and painted airframes. Oxidation, chalking, colour fade and gloss loss are all symptoms of unprotected UV exposure. In the Gulf region, the UV index regularly exceeds 10 — classified as extreme.
SiO₂ is inherently UV-stable. The inorganic ceramic layer that CARVAMP forms on the substrate acts as a barrier, absorbing and scattering UV before it reaches the material beneath. The result: preserved colour, sustained gloss and a coating that does not yellow or chalk under conditions that degrade alternatives.
